How many books until you make real money?
Three books. That's the minimum viable series.
Why Three?
One book: Readers discover it. 100 people buy. One-time sale. Two books: Readers discover book 1, buy book 2. But low loyalty. 150 people buy total. Three books: Readers discover book 1, buy books 2 and 3. Now they're invested. 300 people buy book 1, and 200 of those buy books 2 and 3. That's revenue.
The Math
Book 1 at $4.99: 300 sales = $1,500 in royalties. Book 2 at $4.99: 200 sales = $1,000 in royalties. Book 3 at $4.99: 200 sales = $1,000 in royalties. Total: $3,500 from a three-book series. One book alone? $500. Three books? 7x the revenue.
The Effort Pays
Write three books takes 12-18 months. You invest the time anyway. But three books = 7x revenue. Do the math. Three books is non-negotiable for author income.
